Follow our journey so far

2025
Weston-super-Mare Food Bank started delivering their service from the Hub in April 2025
Progress was made to install a green gym to encourage fitness and wellbeing in Castle Batch.
Big Worle Hub hosted the final event on 30th August 2025 with live music, food & drinks, street games and a lively atmosphere. The event was well attended by organisations who have supported the hub over the years and by the local residents.
2024
Raised £1125 from the Summer Bash event to invest back into the Big Worle Hub and enable us to continue offering services for the community.
Big Worle funding was used to support the creation of the Castle Batch Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) park. The park is an inclusive and well used play space in our 'blue zone'.
2023 - 2025
The hub remains to be fully volunteer run; hosts regular activities and services (coffee mornings, youth services, Citizens Advice, bingo, PCSO drop in).
Funding for the hub will continue until September 2025. Legacy planning: Hub options explored to make the hub operational and sustainable beyond the end of the programme.

Climate carnival for children.
2022 - 2025
In 2022, funded Youth-led art project planning with partners including Super Culture. By 2024, plans for a wellbeing project for young people were underway, working with young people to design and deliver creative wellbeing project.
2022
Big Worle funded Beckett Primary School £49,999.00 to be able to have a community garden that both the families of the school and the community alike can enjoy.
Started organising free, seasonal events for the local community to enjoy, such as the Summer Big Bash, Easter, Halloween and Christmas events.
2021 - 2025
Formed Green Forum to bring together local stakeholders and link up environmental efforts.

Website was refreshed in partnership with Weston College.
Teeny Tiny Festival drew over 200 people, featuring live music, arts, and info stalls.
Lullaby bike ride during the winter of 2021 in collaboration with Super Culture.
2020 - 2022
During COVID-19, a member created YouTube walking tours that led to big community response on social media with people commenting on memories of the area, arranging to follow the walking tours and meet up with friends or watching at home whilst they were isolating.
Funded local not for profit café to deliver food parcels
Funded activity pack for young people for YMCA youth workers to deliver.
Offered free plants to grow, from hub, to maintain engagement
Three new workers appointed – Community Development Manager, Community Engagement Worker and Administrator to deliver new plan
2019 - 2023
Hosted a wide range of activities and services: coffee mornings, Citizens Advice drop-ins, movement classes, youth sessions, creative arts, and more.
2019
Community consultation event at The Hub to listen to residents' suggestions and feedback on how to improve the 'blue zone'. This helped shape the 'Big Worle' 5-year plan.
Funded major hub refurbishments to improve access to the space.
2018 - 2021
Helped fund a major play park renovation at Dartmouth Close in partnership with Alliance Homes and Weston-super-Mare Town Council.
Girls’ rugby, netball and hockey afterschool sessions delivered at Priory School.
2018
Working in Partnership with Becket Primary School on a project to help create a wildlife pond, edible raised beds and a wildlife area in their school grounds.
2017
Wildlife walks by Chris Sperring MBE, a local Naturalist and broadcaster.
Funded a project with Becket Primary School to create a nature trail along the green lanes of our area. The project was delivered by Avon Wildlife Trust.
2016
Installed signs around the local area so people could find their way around Worle more easily!
2014 - 2021
Launched gardening club, won Weston in Bloom award.
Wildlife trail developed in partnership with Somerset Wildlife Trust
Held community BBQs and Santa’s Christmas Party.
Supported the Big Worle Showbiz choir which was set up and developed by a local resident. 100 members joined within the first month.
Planted veg beds (Incredible Edible), hosted Apple Day, and ran litter picks and wildlife walks.
Hosted PCSO drop-ins, cleared alleyways, and addressed anti-social behaviour in partnership with local authorities.
Improved street signs removed “no ball games” signs, upgraded street lighting.
Ran a computer group with Age UK, a popular “bring your own device” club with social benefits.
Organised litter picks, cleared pathways, and removed an abandoned bus shelters.
Held coffee mornings, Movement to Music, and health walks.
Ran a dementia art group, Bingo at St Clements Court, and trips to Taunton, Wales, and Street.
Facilitated Age to Age intergenerational projects.
Partnered with YMCA for youth clubs and with schools for programs like the entrepreneur’s club.
Ran a job club, supported local social enterprises via UnLtd.
Delivered training: first aid, vulnerable person support, PSV/EBS licenses.
Provided work experience, job links with Tamar Court dementia care, and launched a short-lived Financially Fit Club.
Partnered with Citizens’ Advice to promote financial inclusion and access to support services.

IT support for older people
SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) workshops were particularly well-received as they were seen as therapeutic and helped to bring people together, preventing loneliness.
2014
Big Worle hub opens
Installed signposts directing people to The Hub.
Used other community venues: St Marks Church Hall and St Clements Cour for activities like bingo and social gatherings.
Hosted events like coffee mornings, creative writing, bingo, and art classes at The Hub.

Employed a part time worker, IT worker and Youth worker
Trained a team of resident volunteers to become community organisers
Local school competition launched to create the Big Worle logo
Launched website, Facebook, Twitter, and a newsletter to share news and opportunities.
2013 - 2014
Community consultation begins. 2-year process includes creative activities and community research to shape vision and plan.
