Big Wall project to create new artwork for Worle

A new collaborative project, Big Wall, is empowering young Art Activists in Weston-super-Mare to co-create a legacy artwork for the Worle area. Launched in November 2024, this Big Worle initiative is funded by Local Trust and supported by Weston-super-Mare Town Council and Super Culture.

Led by Weston-based artist Sam Francis and Community Producer Sophie Shepherd, the project engages young people (aged 13-16) in creative workshops, exploring different styles of wall art to develop a public artwork for the central blue zone in Worle. The final artwork will be unveiled in Summer 2025.

Following presentations at Worle Community School and Priory Community School, a group of young people have formed an Art Activist panel. Through a programme of activities, including:

  • Hands-on workshops with guest artists
  • Creative activism sessions
  • Exploring street art, murals, stencilling & digital mapping
  • Trips to iconic art sites in Bristol and London

Participants will develop their unique artistic voices while learning how public art can inspire social change.

"Activist Art challenges the status quo to inspire change through creative expression. ‘Big Wall’ will help young people explore how their art can communicate ideas and messages that reflect their local community and the wider world."
